Filmonik Kabaret 2011

The Kabaret is part creative jam session, part cinematic bootcamp: a whole week of flat out, peddle-to-the-metal 24/7 guerrilla filmmaking; a chance for filmmakers, writers, actors, musicians, artists and creatives of all types to come together in a spirit of creative collaboration, to put their inventiveness, ability to improvise and eye for an opportunity to the test, and to have fun with film.

Whatever your skill or interest, the Kabaret has something to offer. For Directors, it’s a chance to hook up with actors, writers, cameramen and editors, for cameramen, sound techs and editors, it’s a chance to hone your skills in a high-pressure environment, pair up with directors, and start working as part of a filmmaking team. For writers, it’s a chance to workshop ideas with actors and get that script on screen. For musicians and composers, it’s a chance to try your hand at scoring a film, or performing on camera. For actors, it’s an opportunity get invaluable experience working with different types of directors and an array of varying dramatic roles. For every participant, it’s an opportunity to build up material for your show reels, to collaborate with new people, and network. Taking part in Kabaret films often leads to future projects and work outside of Filmonik. But you only get out of it what you put in - so get involved and push your talents to the max!'

Participation in the Kabaret will cost £35 for the whole week. For those who cannot commit to a full week, we have divided the Kabaret into two sections - the first leading up to the midweek screening, the second leading up to the Sunday screening. Participation in a single section / screening will cost £20.This will cover access to kit, food provisions, venues and studio hire,insurance, etc.

The Kabaret will be operating out of the “Film Lab”, a communal workspace for use by participants for the duration of the event. Here you will be able to set up editing equipment, rehearse, share ideas, exchange skills, etc.

Please note that Mad Lab is NOT the screening venue or the "Film Lab", only the location of the launch on Sunday 3rd April. Once you have purchased tickets a Information Pack will be emailed to you a week prior to the Kabaret launch, with a full breakdown of the Kabaret including useful information on locations and times.

PLEASE NOTE:

All film work created during the Kabaret must be screened first at the Kabaret. Should there be insufficient time for it to screen a particular screening, due to the number of films, it must screen at either the next Kabaret screening, or the next Filmonik open screening before it can be screened elsewhere.

While filmmakers are encouraged to use the Kabaret to network, form new creative and collaborative partnerships, and develop relationships that they may draw on in their future filmmaking, films made during the Kabaret are FOR the Kabaret. We will not look kindly upon people who use the event as a means of getting others to use their Kabaret time to work on films that are intended for some other purpose. Films created for the Kabaret can certainly subsequently be screened elsewhere, and work created can be incorporated into other projects later. But only if everyone who worked on the film agrees to their work being used in this way, and so long as all are credited and the film’s / section of the film’s origins at the Kabaret are acknowledged.

We will be making a fly-on-the-wall documentary filmed record of this Kabaret, as the best method of demonstrating and illustrating the process to potential future sponsors and funding sources.

You agree that you are responsible for equipment while in your possession and acknowledge that Filmonik will in no way be held liable for direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential damages or losses incurred to that equipment or your own.  You will not produce or otherwise provide any material which:

• is defamatory, fraudulent, unlawful, threatening, intimidating, harassing, harmful, hateful, abusive, tortious, vulgar, obscene, invasive of another's privacy, sexist, racist, homophobic, violent, degrading; or
• infringes the intellectual or other proprietary interests of third parties; or
• impersonates another person or entity, attempts to solicit personal information from another participant, contains sexually explicit language or images, advertises or promotes the sale of products or services such as firearms, tobacco or alcohol, adult products and services and any other products or services Filmonik considers to be inappropriate; or
• change or limit the functionality of the Kabaret or any other venue, including hardware and other electronic equipment, which in any way impinges on another participant’s use or enjoyment of the Kabaret or otherwise breaches or encourages other users to breach these conditions of use; or
• violates any law, statute or regulation, or is contrary to any relevant standards or codes; or
• forges information to disguise the origin of any content; or
• encourages or incites any other person to engage in any of the above behaviour.
